You chose:

  1. Follow the norm of the sales team for several months in order to maintain a good relationship with the other sales personnel in the department. You try to justify your actions to overclaim the travel expenses by considering that it is just part of the overall compensation for the sales team.
Although you are following the unethical group practice, you feel that you have betrayed your family and the values you believe in. You continue to feel a growing discomfort. You cannot enjoy a close relationship with the other sales personnel because of this and due to being the only female on the sales team. You don't share interest in the same topics as your male colleagues and the padding behaviour is only part of the alienating values the team shares. As you have been dishonest with your expenses now for several months you don't feel that you can approach your grandparents. What will you do now?
  1. Report to the manager of sales department what the senior salesman has forced you to do and say that you have reached the conclusion that the group practice doesn't help the healthy growth of the company. Say that it has made you feel uncomfortable and you feel unable to accommodate yourself within this kind of group.

  2. You approach your grandparents and and say that you need to change your position immediately.

  3. Swallow your distaste for expense account padding and actively try to involve yourself in group activities. Over the long term you think you will attempt to convey your preferred values through communication with individual group members, with the idea of ultimately changing their behaviour. You know the sales department is crucial to the success of the business and you believe you should try to suppress your negative feelings towards this group's values and practices. You try to justify this response to yourself by thinking that if you can build a smoother relationship with the sales team it will definitely help you in the future when you expect to be in the management position.
